The Mediterranean Cities

between Myth and Reality

 27,00

Scholars from the Southern and Northern shores of the Mediterranean but also from across the Atlantic, the authors of the essays collected in this volume reflect upon the Mediterranean city, where myth and reality historically coalesce. Seen as a model where homogeneous features blend and are shared across the whole region, the Mediterranean city is an imaginary more than a real entity, arising out of cultural narratives. The reader is taken on a journey through the main cities, looked at and portrayed from several and complementary angles. Mythical narrative, literary fiction, architectural project, and visionary artwork overlap, ultimately to reveal the density of the Mediterranean urban worlds.
The great variety of disciplines and approaches, essential for an initial exploration of the layering underneath our Mediterranean cities, is reflected by the plurality of languages used in the texts. The common objective has been to recreate the plural and sometimes dissonant atmosphere of the Mediterranean city.
